Attracta Fahy, Rae McKinlay and John Devoy

march 3 no text

Join us for another great line up of spoken word performances crossing three genres. Award winning poet Attracta Fahy reads from her new book Dinner in the Fields. Mystical story teller Rae MacKinlay talks Wolves and legends and travel writer John Devoy features in a documentary film about the writing of his travel novel Quondam.

Attracta Fahy’s background is in Nursing/Social Care. She lives in Co.Galway, works as a Psychotherapist, and is mother to three children. She earned her MA in Writing NUIG in 2017. Her poems have been published in many magazines at home and abroad. She was the October winner in Irish Times; New Irish Writing 2019, was nominated for Pushcart 2018, Best of the Web 2019, shortlisted for 2018 Over The Edge New Writer of The Year, and long listed in 2019, shortlisted for Allingham Poetry Prize 2019. Her first collection will be published in March 2020.

Rae McKinlay is a lover of story. She is an advocate of the mythos way of wisdoms and has traveled the Celtic Lands in her quest for story wisdom and inspiration. Though she loves the tales of indigenous peoples, Rae writes her own stories which are often rooted in nature and the old ways of knowing.

Local author John Devoy read from his acclaimed travel book “Quondam” which is an account of his epic bicycle journey across two continents. RTE Nationwide have made a short interview film which aired on 16th December at 7pm. John Devoy grew up in the 1960’s, on the shores of Cork harbour. Since 2000, he and his wife Sara have devoted themselves, assiduously, to building a successful organic farm enterprise from 6 acres of wilderness. He knows well what work is, knows vision, passion and the pitfalls and frustrations that accompany them. Thankfully he has always kept journals, always kept writing, always kept in touch with a core belief in the pursuit of both ideals and hard nosed realism. In recent times he has begun the process of stepping back from the farm to devote more time to writing.

Quondam is the first of a trilogy. The audio version of Quondam is available too. johndevoyauthor.com
